We Won Best Documentary Honorable Mention @ BlackStar!
Our world premiere took place at the BlackStar Film Festival in Philly on August 8th! At the Filmmakers’ Luncheon, Arlieta and Brittany were honored to receive the Jury’s Award for Honorable Mention in the Best Documentary category.
The screening was followed by a Q&A featuring Arlieta and Brittany, who were joined by Dr. Kameelah Mu’Min Oseguera of the Perspective Fund, who offered her insights on caregiver mental health and consent in documentary filmmaking; Yvonne Welbon of Sisters in Cinema; our incredible award-winning editor Giorgia Harvey; and our impact producer, Toni Achebe Bell of Black Cat Impact Media.
Arlieta also brought her signature blend of humor and heart to the Daily Jawn Morning Show, BlackStar’s informal stage for fun banter, games, prizes, and artist appearances. Interviewed by hosts Denise Beek and Tre Johnson, Arlieta spoke about the film and performed a 10-minute stand-up routine for the festival crowd.
